STUDY OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION BY ROAD TRAFFIC IN URBAN AREAS

The purpose of this study is to devise a method of calculating the marginal costs of environmental pollution, both air and noise pollution, by automobiles. The present extent of pollution, the psychological and physiological effects of pollution and the costs to the economy as a whole are concerned. Sample cities studied were Amsterdam, Brussels, Cologne, Verona, and Lyons. A model city was devised considering the factors of width of roads, distance between house fronts, type of buildings, heights of buildings.
