TRAFFIC SIGNAL COORDINATION-A SURVEY OF DRIVERS IN ADELAIDE
This report presents the main results of a survey of drivers in Adelaide (Belair Road/Unley Road). The survey, which took the form of a self-completion questionnaire handed out to drivers as they stopped at traffic lights, was carried out after the introduction of computerised traffic signal coordination along most of the route. After answering a number of factual questions about a specific trip, respondents were asked about their perception of recent changes in travel times along the route. A total of 2131 responses were obtained giving a response rate of just under 43 per cent. It was found that the average vehicle using the route is just over 5 years old and has an engine capacity of 2.5 litres. Data about the origin and destination of trips and trip purpose were also collected and are given here. Overall less than 13 per cent of respondents reported an improvement in their travel time for trips along the route. (Author/TRRL)
