THE ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF FRACTURE IN THE UNITED STATES: PART 1 - A SYNOPSIS OF THE SEPTEMBER 30, 1982 REPORT TO THE NATIONAL BUREAU OF STANDARDS BY BATTELLE COLUMBUS LABORATORIES

A study to assess the costs of material fracture to the US for the year 1978 has been completed. The econometric input-output model was used to identify contributions from the entire US economy. The study covered all types of materials, all types of structures, and included the costs of fracture occurrence and prevention. The costs are primarily associated with the transportation and construction industries: motor vehicles, aircraft, housing and non-residential construction. See also TRIS abstract no 389514. (TRRL)
