EVALUATION OF THE DEFORMABILITY OF ANISOTROPIC ROCK MASSES FROM THE RESULTS OF FIELD TESTS

ERMITTLUNG DER VERFORMBARKEIT VON ANISOTROPEM FELS AUS DEN ERGEBNISSEN VON FELDVERSUCHEN

The deformability of rock masses is frequently determined with the aid of dilatometer and flat jack tests. However, there are considerable problems in interpreting test results obtained in anisotropic rock conditions since no methods for evaluating the parameters of anisotropic rock masses from these tests are available. Formulae and diagrams for the evaluation of these parameters from the results of dilatometer and flat jack tests based on analytical and numerical methods are presented. An unequivocal determination of individual parameters implies a certain arrangement of tests and a combination of different test results. In-situ triaxial tests on rock specimens largely isolated from the surrounding rock mass by slots make possible the determination of several parameters on one sample if the tests are appropriately carried out.
