GEODYNAMICS - A VALUABLE TOOL FOR ROCK QUALITY TESTING

Rock quality evaluation by means of geodynamic methods has been used for many years for pre-investigation purposes. The sound velocity has been the only quality parameter. It is possible by means of appropriate sensors for bore-hole installation, to give a fair in-situ rock quality estimation. The presupposition is that one controls an analysing method that reflects the rock mass conditions. In such a method the sound velocity is only one of several parameters. A mathematical model for stress wave propagation in a medium built up from elastic shells or layers is developed. For verification of the model's validity in rocks, a field experimental program is accomplished. The number of the covering abstract of the congress is TRIS no. 385148. (TRRL)
