ROAD TRANSPORT "MAJOR USER OF LABOR"

The positive contribution of road transport of freight and passengers to the employment situation was outlined recently by Dr. Guido Ziffer, President of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), at the XIXth IRU Congress in Venice, Italy. Dr. Ziffer said, "Road transport, while adhering to its objectives in respect to productivity is, in fact, a major user of labor employing several million people in Europe and several tens of millions throughout the world. The direct and indirect employment which it provides is much more extensive than that of rail transport, and has remained fairly stable, despite the crisis. The work offered is varied adapted to the individual, calls for qualities of responsibility and a spirit of initiative, which is now being rediscovered." (Author)
