A SELF-PROPELLED THREE ROW AUTOMATIC SEEDLING PLANTER
Mechanization of nursery and planting ("injection planting") operations involving large quantities of seedlings requires constant dimensions of the potted seedling (planting bullet). Packaging, growing, shipping and planting these seedlings require a modular container which can accommodate a sequence of related requirements and constraints. This can best be met by injection molding the container from a versatile and relatively inexpensive thermoplastic. The planting bullet preserves the physiological condition of the seedling during transfer from nursery to plantation, eliminates root deformation, and allows for root development. A new machine, the ReForester, has been developed for injection planting which is capable of planting three rows of seedlings simultaneously, while traversing over logging slash. Development of the planting process is outlined from manual planting gun, through automatic injection machine, to self-propelled planter.
