WORKING ENVIRONMENT FOR TAXI DRIVERS AND DRIVING SCHOOL TEACHERS. A CLIMATE STUDY

TAXIFOERARES OCH TRAFIKLAERARES ARBETSMILJOE. EN KLIMATSTUDIE

The working environment for taxi drivers and driving school instructors in summer and winter conditions has been surveyed as to the interior climate conditions. The surveys have been carried out in modern passenger cars representing the models most frequently used as taxi and/or driving school cars in Sweden. These surveys also had the object of studying different devices likely to improve the thermal environment in various conditions. The winter studies showed that in all the studied vehicles the drivers were able to obtain the desired temperatures (approx 25 deg C). However, the temperatures varied considerably with time and space. During short pauses (approx 60 min) a special type of heater proved to have a positive effect on comfort. This effect varied slightly with car model. In summer conditions the average temperature surrounding the driver exceeded +30 deg. C in steady-state conditions. The air conditioning devices tested, increased the comfort. However, air conditioning only is not enough but has to be combined with solar radiation screening in order to reach temperature comfort.
