THE PERFORMANCE IN SERVICE OF BRIDGE DECK EXPANSION JOINTS
The performance in service of bridge deck expansion joints has been investigated over a period of seven years. Studies included installation practice, joint design and materials used, structural measurements at selected joints, the nature of deterioration and factors influencing performance. A wide range of factors influenced performance. It was found that to achieve long term satisfactory performance, design, choice of joint, installation procedures and the factors influencing the service conditions need to be considered very carefully.
