FROM RESEARCH TO DESIGN IN END- PLATE CONNECTIONS
End- plate connections have attracted a lot of interest in recent years all over the world. In the USA, numerous analytical and experimental investigations into the behaviour of end- plates and components have been conducted, mainly under the sponsorship of the American Institute of Steel Construction and the Metal Building Manufacturers Association. By finite element analysis of a large number of connections, and regression analysis of the results, a governing equation for connection strength was developed. A design procedure based on the findings has been included in the manual of the American Institute of Steel Construction. (Author/TRRL)
