CONVERSION TO LIMIT STATES DESIGN CODES
In the conversion of existing structural design codes to a new suite of limit states format codes, the concept of a safety index is used to ensure that use of the new codes will lead to a satisfactory level of structural reliability. Simple examples are used to illustrate how this is done. Various matters that must be considered in such a procedure are discussed, and the benefits that can be obtained through use of the safety index are mentioned. (Author/TRRL)
