TIMETABLE PLANNING
The author describes the various stages of timetable compilation, in the course of which train paths are worked out on the basis of locomotive type and train load, with particular reference to the leeway allowed in terms of recovery margins, etc. Various problems are examined, and the use of computers for optimizing train running in order to achieve energy savings in discussed. Prospects for further computerization are assessed.
