USE OF WAKE INTERFERENCE ELEMENT TO REDUCE CAVITATION DAMAGE

Considerable data on cavitation damage exists in literature. The investigation reported here is related to the specific problems of cavitating flow past a two-dimensional cylindrical body to which a wake interference element in the form of a splitter plate is attached at the rear. In the present tests, a splitter plate set in the rear of a cavitating two-dimensional cylinder is shown to reduce cavitation damage in the aluminum test specimen held in the wake of the cylinder. The results are both qualitative and quantitative.
