SURVEYING INSTRUMENTATION: A LOOK TO THE FUTURE
This paper discusses the design changes in surveying instrumentation over the past few years which have enabled those involved with land surveying to increase their efficiency and hence maintain costs. The now well-established electromagnetic distance measuring systems have had the most significant influence. However, the electronic reading theodolite is likely to have a major effect provided it is operated in conjunction with automatic recording devices and the automation is carried through to the office processing. Some new ideas for surveying instrumentation are aimed at reducing the number of operators required. (Author/TRRL)
