HYDROSTATICS ON VEHICLES--CONTROLLING AND SIZING FOR PRODUCTIVITY
Controlling and sizing aspects of hydrostatic vehicles are viewed in terms of productivity goals. Three significant stages are developed: an open circuit hydrostatic transmission model with a variable displacement pump actuating two fixed displacement motors; a tracked vehicle locomotion model interfacing transmission and soil characteristics; and a comprehensive evaluation of system behavior based on "overall productivity efficiency." Productivity concepts are useful yardsticks in deciding on optimum sizing and control of transmission and vehicle components under specific constraints. Computational case studies, based on a conversational computer program, are described to illustrate applications and potentials of the productivity goal analysis approach.
