STRUCTURAL SEWER RELINING SYSTEM CATCHES GUNITE MEN NAPPING
This article describes a new sewer lining technique developed by Alphacrete Construction Linings (UK) Ltd. The ACL system is based on a premixed wet mortar which is sprayed onto mesh reinforcement, the mix leaving the gun at a low velocity. The concrete mortar with a cement/water ratio between 0.30 to 0.35 is pumped at a pressure of around 20 bars. Test tubes taken for the mortar have shown that the mix is well up to strength with results of 55n/sq mm and 57n/sq mm at seven days. The new structural lining has been designed to take up to 48% of the imposed loading on the 2.4M dia brick barrel sewer at the South Kensington site. Figures quoted by ACL range between 50 and 125 pounds sterling per square metre. (TRRL)
