PROPERTIES OF ULTRA-HIGH-STRENGTH CONCRETE CONTAINING A SUPERPLASTICIZER

Tests have been undertaken over a period of one year to compare the time-dependant properties of high-cement-content (500-730kg/m cubed) concretes with and without a superplasticizing admixture. For mixes containing the superplasticizer, there was an improvement in strength and modulus of elasticity and a decrease in shrinkage, but there were increases in creep and swelling. The process of microcracking is postulated to be a contributing factor in shrinkage and in creep under drying conditions. (Author/TRRL)
