RE-USE OF GUARDRAILS; CONSIDERABLE FINANCIAL ADVANTAGE POSSIBLE
HERGEBRUIK VAN GELEIDERAIL; AANZIENLIJK FINANCIEEL VOORDEEL MOGELIJK
After a historical review of the introduction of guardrail constructions the re-use of the old rails, which are in a bad condition or which are heavily corroded, is considered. Zinking of guardrails and atmospheric effects on zinked rails is discussed. It is pointed out that to re-use the rails the old zinc layer has to be removed and a new zinc layer has to be applied and/or minor modifications to measurements and hole pattern of the rails have to be carried out. Financial advantages of re-use of guardrails are discussed. An enumeration of points of attention in the re-use of guardrails is given. (TRRL)
