COMPACTION: A CONDITION FOR QUALITY
VERDICHTEN: VOORWAARDE VOOR KWALITEIT
After an introduction on the basics of compaction the necessity of good compaction is discussed, by means of a few examples. A brief review of three compaction methods is given, namely: 1. Compaction by static loading; 2. Compaction by tamping and 3. Vibratory compaction. Vibratory compaction in the laboratory is discussed. Tests were carried out with a modified Derritron vibrator on OBR-cylinders which had been filled by the sieve method. The material is compacted by vibration under specific conditions, which are created by means of frequency, acceleration and loading. Conclusions are drawn. (TRRL)
