THE BICYCLE ROUTE PROJECT IN DELFT

HET PROJECT FIETSROUTENETWERK DELFT

In the multi-year plan for passenger traffic 1980-1984 an urban bicycle route network for Delft was announced. It aims at the realization of a policy on bicycle traffic and the evaluation of this policy to extend the knowledge on how a bicycle route network operates. There may be changes in policy in the future. The Delft project is a more or less logical sequel of the demonstration projects on urban cycle routes in Tilburg and The Hague. Results of these two earlier projects led also to the idea to include a bicycle route network in the medium term planning. Delft was chosen because the local authority already had a complete bicycle route network plan which largely satisfied the research requirements. (TRRL)
