ENGINEERING CONSIDERATIONS ON LITIGATION AVOIDANCE
The number of product liability lawsuits increases each year, as does the size of their associated judgments. The literature discusses the development of case law and the trends of legal interpretations which have led to the doctrine of strict liability. Probably the best way to prevent such lawsuits lies in considering safety in greater detail from the earliest stages of a product's engineering. This article presents design tips which can help to minimize a manufacturer's exposure to product liability lawsuits.
