EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS OF THE MARITIME SATELLITE NAVIGATION/ COMMUNICATION (MARSCAN) SYSTEM
AII systems under contract to the Maritime Administration has recently completed the development, installation and evaluation of an experimental Maritime Satellite Navigation/Communication (MARSCAN) System to obtain technical and general maritime user information involving the utilization of synchronous satellites to improve maritime operations. This paper presents a brief technical description of the experimental system configuration encompassing the MCC, Earth station, and ship terminal hardware and software. The balance of the paper summarizes the comprehensive test results obtained during the six-month experimental phase.
