ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT ON RAIL VEHICLES
Power and control electronics are installed on rail vehicles to replace electromechanical components that are subject to wear and tear and to improve the operational features by achieving complex functions by means of electronic devices. Brief mention is made of recent developments in the fields of installation and cooling, GTO thyristors, microcomputer controls and the use of optical-fibre cables for data transmission, especially for multiple-unit control of locomotives and motor coaches.
