REMOVAL AND TESTING OF ELASTOMERIC BRIDGE BEARINGS
Limited information is available about the long-term performance of elastomeric bridge bearings in service. To obtain this information selected vulcanised elastomeric laminated bridge bearings which had been in service for 20 years were monitored in-situ, removed and tested in the laboratory. Some changes in their characteristics were measured but they were insufficient to warrant replacement. The data obtained from the trial indicated the requirements, difficulties and overall feasibility of removing bearings for testing. (Author/TRRL)
