THE AUTOMATION OF TOLLS AND THE USE OF METHODS OF DEFERRED PAYMENT IN ITALY

Since 1973 systems of motorway toll collection other than payment on the spot have been increasingly used in Italy, accounting for more than 20% (150 billion lira) of toll revenue on the Autostrade Society Network. These payments have been made mostly by the use of current account tickets. Two solutions now adopted by the Autostrade Societ for toll payment are: (a) current account debit, and (b) budget account payment. (TRRL)
