APPROXIMATE METHOD FOR OBTAINING PROCTOR DENSITIES AND CBR VALUES FROM THE PARTICLE SIZE DISTRIBUTIONS OF SOILS AND THEIR ATTERBERG LIMITS

METODO APROXIMADO PARA LA OBTENCION DE LAS DENSIDADES PROCTOR Y DE LOS INDICES CBR PARTIENDO DE LAS GRANULOMETRIAS DE LOS SUELOS Y SUS LIMITES DE ATTERBERG

The paper introduces an approximate method for obtaining Proctor densities and CBR values from the particle size distribution of soils and their Atterberg Limits. The formulae obtained through experiments made with different types of soils are indicated. They make it possible to calculate: (1) the optimum Proctor moisture depending on the liquid limit; and (2) the CBR value depending on maximum density and the plasticity index. Some good results were obtained except for soils with a high percentage of carbonates, sulfates or organic matter. (TRRL)
