COLOMBIAN EXPERIENCE IN SLOPE STABILITY
EXPERIENCIA COLOMBIANA EN ESTABILIDAD DE TALUDES
The topographical, geologic and hydraulic characteristics of Colombia, a mountainous and tropical country, make the execution of public works in this zone very difficult. The lack of economic resources has obliged the engineers, in this area to use low safety factors (between 1,1 and 1,3) in designs. In this study different methods used for slope stabilization are given, with a brief theoretical explanation of the solution. Daily and routine experiences are presented rather than special cases. Special methods for soil upgrading, in relation with surface and subsurface drainage, decrease of sliding elements in cohesive and granular soils, and earth retaining walls are described. (TRRL)
