EXPERIENCE WITH ROUNDABOUTS IN THE AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY
Few roundabouts had been built in Australia prior to the 1970s. They are now being applied to a wide variety of traffic sitations. In the ACT, roundabouts have been constructed in locations ranging from major arterial roads to local streets in industrial and residential areas. Their designs extend from the traditional to the very contemporary. A number of these are reviewed in terms of their convenience, safety and capacity together with the reasons for their choice over other intersection forms. Geometrical features, strengths and weaknesses of various layouts and certain innovations are discussed. (Author/TRRL)
