BEHAVIOUR OF STEEL STRUCTURES UNDER FIRE CONDITIONS

Australian regulatory requirements for fire- resistant construction using steel are summarised and methods for satisfaction of these requirements by calculation are presented. These methods use statistical analysis of fire- resistance test data to model the thermal response and established structural analysis methods to model the structural response. Comparisons with test data show that the methods produce satisfactory results. The need for multiple fire- resistance tests to obtain reliable thermal design data for each fire-protection material is emphasised. (Author/TRRL)
