ENVIRONMENTAL LEAD AND ITS CONTROL IN AUSTRALIA

The distribution of lead in the environment occurs mainly via lead compounds in particulate form in the atmosphere. The influence of man- made sources is significant even in remote areas. Although appreciable knowledge has accumulated about control measures necessary for the reduction of lead pollution, important aspects have become distorted or buried. The sources of lead contributing to body burden are discussed in the light of new data, and an outline is given of new refinery practice necessary for the production of lead-free gasoline.
