TRAFFIC SAFETY IN WORK ZONES
The potential for hazardous conditions on a pavement is increased significantly when utility installation or repair operations are conducted within a right-of-way, during highway construction projects, or while roadway maintenance operations are underway. Motorist safety can be enhanced greatly by following the requirements of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). This article discusses a program to assure compliance with MUTCD and a traffic control plan that is as good as possible, which is based primarily on a regular inspection and maintenance program.
