LATERAL PRESSURES IN A CONFINED POROUS MEDIUM
M. Y. Corapcioglu, et al. has obtained expressions for deformations and stresses due to a single surface line load in a fluid saturated porous medium of finite width. The problem has a practical importance, especially in the case of elevated, unpaved roads which are supported by retaining walls on both sides. In a subsequent paper by Corapcioglu and A. N. Ural, the expressions for deformations and stresses for one or two-vehicle operation are given based on solutions obtained in the previous analysis. The present paper briefly reviews other available techniques and presents a comparison of lateral stresses which are exerted on the retaining walls.
