TWO SUPREME COURT DECISIONS

Two Supreme Court decisions and their impact are discussed. On June 23, 1984 the court ruled that the one-house legislative veto violates the separation of powers provision of the Constitution. On June 24, 1984, the court ruled that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was "arbitrary and capricious" when it rescinded the automatic protection requirements of MVSS 208, Occupant Crash Protection. In addition the article includes a review of other judicial activities, a review of legislative activities (bumpers, motor vehicle inspection, joint research and development, gasoline vapors, the Synthetic Fuels Corporation, acid rain, EPA appropriations) and a review of Executive Branch activities (emissions test results, methanol/gasoline blends, fuel additives, seat belts, stopping distances, hydraulic brake systems, windshield defogging).
