THE USE OF POLYMERS IN CONCRETE REPAIR

The article continues with the second part of a discussion on the repair of cracked concrete with pressure injection techniques. Investigations described have confirmed that resin injection of cracked concrete has proved an effective method of repair and can in some cases restore the integrity of concrete so that it satisfies the requirements of the CP 110 code for concrete. The physical properties of typical materials used in concrete repair are tabulated: these include epoxy resin, polyester resin, and cementitious grouts, mortars and concretes, and also polymer modified cementitious systems. It is concluded that the successful long-term repair of concrete depends on the correct diagnosis, careful preparation and application of the correct repair materials. A guide to the selection of concrete repair masterials, tabulated according to type of damage, is apppended. For Part 1 of the article see TRIS abstract no. 380529. (TRRL)
