HOW THE CHANGES OF SPEED LIMITS HAVE INFLUENCED SPEED AND ACCIDENTS

Hvordan fartsgrenseendringene har innvirket på fart og ulykker

The report describes the main results from a preliminary analysis of the effects of changes in speed limits on speed and accidents in Norway after 1979. From that year on, the criteria for speed limits have been changed so that the part of the highway network with special speed limits, usually 60 km per hour, has been increased from 14 to 24 percent. The investigation shows that these changes have reduced the speed and the number of accidents. Some improvements of the way in which speed zones are dealt with are also suggested. (TRRL)
