ROUNDABOUTS, PART 2; MAIN REPORT: EXPERIENCES WITH SELECTED ROUNDABOUTS IN NORWAY

RUNDKJOERINGER, DEL II; HOVEDRAPPORT: ERFARINGER FRA UTVALGTE RUNDKJOERINGER I NORGE

The report sums up the results from before and after studies at 5 junctions which have been reconstructed as roundabouts. In addition, the effect of reconstruction of an existing roundabout has been examined. The traffic flow at the junctions is described through use of time, number of stops, and the amount of time the vehicles are stationary in A queue. The main tendency is an improved circulation after the reconstruction. The speed level through the junction at low traffic flow has been reduced after reconstruction. For all the 5 junctions the total number of accidents per year with personal injury has been reduced with about 60 percent, but the after period is too short to be able to provide reliable results. For reports no. 1 and 3 see TRIS nos. 385361 and 385363. (TRRL)
