COMPUTERIZING YOUR EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE PROGRAM
Computers are today helping construction firms to manipulate equipment data at potential cost savings of 5 to 30 percent of their annual repair and maintenance expenses. Software vendors are offering equipment maintenance programs tailored to the construction industry incorporating the latest data-base techniques. Most software programs contain information on the following: equipment list (to locate every piece of equipment); maintenance schedule (to identify for each vehicle every maintenance inspection and service to be performed); overdue maintenance report (maintenance tasks for a piece of equipment that is over its service frequency); component tracking (determines how much wear or hours a particular component has); costs (analyzed by labor, repair parts, fuel, oil and filters and operating costs); and parts inventory. This article also discusses the justifying of the computerization of equipment information.
