CLASS RBDE 4/4 RECTIFIER MOTORCOACHES FOR REGIONAL RAILWAY COMPLEX

A shuttle-service train covering an area of central Switzerland, has to cope with brisk goods traffic while providing extensive commuter and excursion services. Local operating conditions led to an arrangement with contactor-controlled tapchangers, oil-immersed rectifiers and ripple current motors with series and separate excitation. Facilities are provided for changeover from rectifier and tap-changer to thyristor equipment sometime in the future.
