STUDY ON A DAMPER SYSTEM OF THE TOWER OF A LONG SUSPENSION BRIDGE UNDER CONSTRUCTION
It is well known that the tower of a long-suspension bridge under construction is susceptible to large vortex-induced vibrations. In the case of Oonaruto Bridge, it was necessary to consider the aeroelastic instability of that before construction too. The authors therefore designed a damper system consisting of a 330 m-span wire rope, weight and oil damper. The utility of this system was studied by theoretical analysis and a model test. As a result of this study, it was found that the test results correspond adequately with the analytical results. This system was adopted to the tower and the strong-wind response, was measured thereby confirming the effectiveness of this system. (Author)
