ULTIMATE LOAD BEHAVIOUR OF STIFFENED WEB PANELS SUBJECTED TO COMBINED STRESS
The paper describes the behaviour of four stiffened steel web panels subjected to longitudinal direct stress and four panels subjected to combined longitudinal direct stress and shear stress states. The interaction between adjacent subpanels down the depth of a girder web is considered, and the influence of plate panel geometry on this behaviour is also investigated. The results of an experimental test programme are described, and these are compared with the predictions of the new BS 5400 and with the results of large deflexion, elasto-plastic finite element analyses.
