THE REVISION OF BS 1881, TESTS FOR CONCRETE
Recent changes in BS 1881 are outlined. Whereas the 1970 version had six parts, the present standard has been split into 25 parts which are listed. Each part covers a separate test or the requirements for sampling or making specimens. The large number of parts provide some flexibility in choosing the tests applicable to the type of work on site or within a particular laboratory. Updating and amendment are also simplified. Each of the BS tests and requirements complies with existing equivalent ISO standards, but the requirements in the ISO standards will not necessarily comply with all the parts in this British Standard. Where there is enough evidence of the repeatability and reproducibility of the tests an estimate is given, but precision data in accordance with BS 5497 are still required for several tests in common use. Reference is also made to future parts of the Standard and to drafts for development which may be included in the Standard after their usefulness has been assessed. (TRRL)
