ON THE FINITE ELEMENT STRESS ANALYSIS OF OIL TANKER STRUCTURES
A three dimensional finite element stress analysis of a midship tank section for a 350,000 tdw tanker is described. Some results are presented for both static and dynamic loading conditions. The analysis has been used for comparison with a three dimensional frame analysis. The results call for a simplified finite element calculation procedure for both transverse web frames and transverse bulkhead structures.
