AN ANALYSIS OF TRENDS IN VEHICLE FUEL EFFICIENCY - GB W EUROPE AND THE USA IN THE PERIOD 1970 TO 1980

The objective of this paper is twofold: (1) to summarise the trends in road vehicle fuel consumption, particularly car fuel efficiency trends in the USA and Europe over the period 1970-1980; (2) to examine likely trends in fuel consumption and vehicle fuel efficiency up to the year 2000, in the light of the past decade and new initiatives and consequences of a more energy-conscious age in the USA, West Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom.
