HOW FLORIDA DEVELOPED HOT MIX RECYCLING

The development of hot mixed asphalt concrete recycling in Florida has been approached in a systematic manner utilizing a rheological condition survey, and field performance data collected over the past twenty years. This information formed the base for specifications and design procedures employed by the state in its recycling program. This article discusses that program, covering the evaluation of pavements for recycling, characterization of salvaged mixes, preliminary and final design, bid documents, and construction control specifications.
