THE EVALUATION OF THE BEARING CAPACITY OF AIRPORT PAVEMENTS

LA VALUTAZIONE DELLA PORTANZA DELLE PAVIMENTAZIONI AEROPORTUALI

This article presents a critical analysis of the development of methods for evaluating the bearing capacities of airport runway pavements (flexible and rigid) with particular reference to load tests and the interpretation of results. It concludes with a brief description of the new acn/pcn (aircraft classification number/pavement classification number) method now being generally adopted by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation).
