SAFETY COMPARISONS BETWEEN TRAFFIC AND OTHER HUMAN ACTIVITIES

LIIKENTEEN JA MUIDEN TOIMINTOJEN TURVALLISUUDEN VERTAILU

Safety in traffic was compared with the safety of other human activities with the aid of available data. The study was commissioned by the Roads and Waterways Administration. Working at the working place seems to be three times as dangerous, on average, as working or otherwise being at home. The safety of traffic is highly dependent on traffic mode, but being in traffic is about seven times as dangerous, on average, as working and about 21 times as dangerous as being or working at home. The results of this study were similar to the results of a corresponding study made earlier in Norway. (TRRL)
