TEMPORARY ROAD-BLOCK
JDELIJKE BLOKKERING VAN EEN RIJSTROOK
The research reported concerns a method of calculating the effects of a temporary road-block, e.g. at railway-crossings and bridges. The effects are represented by the size and duration of the resulting disturbance, the number of affected vehicles and their extra travel-time. The effects are related to the duration of the block and the flow of the undisturbed stream. Extra travel-times are dependent on the square of the duration of the block and the other disturbance-parameters on the duration itself. The method is illustrated with some examples using a set of basic diagrams which could be valid for one lane. A relatively simple method is presented to determine the relevant parameters of the basic diagram.
