HEAD LOSSES AT TWO PIPE STORMWATER JUNCTION CHAMBERS
Current Australian stormwater urban piped drainage systems employ junction chambers (manholes, chambers or pits) without benching or streamlining. The conditions in such chambers can be described by one of three coefficients based on outlet pipe velocity head. Even with a two pipe junctions the number of independent variables is so great that complete analysis will not be available for many years. Evidence is shown on the effects of junction size and plan shape. Effects are also shown of pipe line intersection at the downstream face, drops (or offsets), and angles. Design formulae are given and further investigation recommended. (TRRL)
