WORLD ENERGY CONFERENCE - OIL SUBSTITUTION: WORLD OUTLOOK TO 2020, NEW DELHI, 1983
Despite overproduction in oil and a fall in world prices it will become necessary to replace oil by alternative fuel sources in energy consuming sectors such as transport and industry. The book has the following objectives: 1) to identify and assess the technology, the economics and other factors affecting oil substitution by other energy sources; 2) to quantify the degree of oil substitution likely in developing countries, developed countries and centrally planned countries, by making specific assumptions of price and availability of crude oil; and 3) to study the sensitivity of oil substitution to changes in price and availability of oil. The book evaluates the scope for oil substitution in the consuming sectors of the energy economy and analyses the wide ranging technical, institutional, infrastructural and environmental factors likely to influence the rate of oil substitution in the following chapters: 1) methodology; 2) report findings and conclusions; 3) industrial sector study; 4) residential/commercial sector study; 5) electricity generation sector study; 6) transport sector study; 7) developing countries study; 8) refinery balances; 9) policy instruments; 10) information systems on oil substitution; and 11) energy resources survey.
