SYSTEMS TRENDS: EQUIPMENT DEMAND

The rapid growth in unitization of general cargo is producing a high demand for container handling and ro-ro terminal equipment. For back-up functions in major terminals, straddle carriers, slave trailer and gantry craneage systems have been the chief contenders. The need for selectivity and flexibility in operation led to the straddle carrier being frequently chosen as the key system. Various tractor, front-lift trucks, etc., utilized to facilities handling are described.
